Job Summary:
The Power Plant Radiation Protection Specialist is responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of radiation protection programs within a power plant facility. This role involves implementing radiation protection measures, monitoring radiation levels, conducting radiological surveys, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards. The Radiation Protection Specialist collaborates with various departments and personnel to promote a safe working environment and minimize radiation exposure risks.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop and implement radiation protection programs to maintain a safe working environment within the power plant facility.
2. Conduct routine inspections and radiological surveys to monitor radiation levels and identify potential hazards.
3. Provide guidance and support to power plant personnel regarding radiation protection practices, procedures, and equipment use.
4. Perform regular calibration and maintenance of radiation monitoring equipment to ensure accurate readings.
5. Maintain records and documentation related to radiation protection activities, including exposure reports, surveys, and monitoring data.
6. Collaborate with other departments to establish and enforce radiation safety protocols, policies, and procedures.
7. Monitor and assess the effectiveness of radiation protection measures and recommend improvements as necessary.
8. Conduct training sessions for power plant personnel on radiation safety practices and emergency response procedures.
9. Stay updated with industry regulations, standards, and best practices related to radiation protection and ensure compliance within the power plant facility.
10. Assist in investigating and reporting any radiation-related incidents or accidents and recommend preventive measures.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Health Physics, Radiation Protection, Nuclear Engineering, or a related field.
2. At least 3 years of experience working in a power plant or nuclear facility in a radiation protection role.
3. In-depth knowledge of radiation protection principles, practices, regulations, and industry standards.
4. Proficient in using radiation monitoring equipment and tools.
5. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to assess radiation hazards and implement appropriate control measures.
6. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively communicate radiation protection procedures and guidelines.
7. Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and influence others to prioritize radiation safety.
8. Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to maintain accurate documentation and records.
9. Familiarity with emergency response procedures and ability to handle potential radiation incidents effectively.
10. Strong commitment to workplace safety and adherence to strict safety protocols.
