Job Summary:
The Utility Public Relations Specialist is responsible for managing and maintaining positive relationships with the public, stakeholders, and media outlets on behalf of the utility company. They play a critical role in developing and implementing strategic communication plans to enhance the company's reputation, promote its initiatives, and ensure effective public engagement. The Utility Public Relations Specialist will work closely with internal teams to create compelling content, manage media relations, and coordinate community outreach programs.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop and execute strategic communication plans to promote the utility company's initiatives, projects, and services.
2. Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with media outlets, journalists, and key stakeholders to ensure accurate and favorable coverage.
3. Create engaging and persuasive content for various communication channels, including press releases, articles, newsletters, website, and social media platforms.
4. Coordinate and manage media inquiries, press conferences, interviews, and other media-related events.
5. Monitor media coverage and public sentiment related to the utility company, analyzing and addressing potential issues or crises proactively.
6. Collaborate with internal teams to ensure consistent messaging and alignment with the company's strategic goals.
7. Develop and implement community engagement programs, events, and sponsorships to enhance the utility company's reputation and community relations.
8. Provide guidance and support to company executives and subject matter experts for media interviews and public appearances.
9. Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and regulatory changes related to utility management and public relations.
10. Measure and report on the effectiveness of public relations campaigns, utilizing key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive continuous improvement.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field.
2. Minimum of 3 years of experience in public relations, preferably within the energy or utility industry.
3. Proven track record of successfully developing and executing strategic communication plans.
4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create compelling content for various communication channels.
5. Strong media relations skills, including experience in managing media inquiries, press conferences, and interviews.
6. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive relationships with media outlets, stakeholders, and community organizations.
7. Proficiency in utilizing social media platforms and tools for public relations purposes.
8. Solid understanding of public relations principles, crisis management, and media monitoring.
9. Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
10. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think strategically and respond effectively to changing circumstances.
