Job Description: Utility Sustainability Manager
Position Overview:
The Utility Sustainability Manager is responsible for overseeing and implementing sustainable practices within the energy and utilities sector. This role requires a deep understanding of utility management and sustainable development principles, with a focus on optimizing resource efficiency and reducing environmental impact. The individual in this position will collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and execute sustainability strategies and initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop and implement utility sustainability strategies and initiatives, aligned with organizational goals and industry best practices.
2. Identify and analyze utility-related sustainability risks and opportunities, providing recommendations to enhance operational efficiency and reduce environmental impact.
3. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to establish sustainability performance indicators, goals, and targets, ensuring continuous improvement and compliance with regulatory requirements.
4. Conduct regular audits and assessments to measure the effectiveness of sustainability programs, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions as necessary.
5. Stay updated on emerging sustainability trends, technologies, and regulations in the energy and utilities industry, recommending relevant strategies and initiatives.
6. Foster relationships with external partners, industry associations, and government agencies to stay informed about sustainability policies and leverage resources for collaborative initiatives.
7. Prepare reports and presentations on sustainability performance and progress, communicating key findings and recommendations to senior management and relevant stakeholders.
8. Develop and deliver training programs to increase awareness and understanding of sustainability practices among employees, promoting a culture of sustainability within the organization.
9. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, procurement, and finance, to integrate sustainability considerations into decision-making processes.
10. Support the development of sustainability-related policies, procedures, and guidelines, ensuring compliance and effective implementation throughout the organization.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in environmental science, engineering, sustainability, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
2. Proven experience (X years) in utility management, sustainability, or a related field, with a focus on energy and utilities.
3. Strong knowledge of sustainability principles, environmental regulations, and emerging trends within the energy and utilities industry.
4. Demonstrated ability to develop and implement sustainability strategies and initiatives, delivering measurable results.
5. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to conduct assessments, analyze data, and make data-driven recommendations.
6. Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously and meet deadlines.
7. Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively present information to diverse audiences.
8. Proven ability to collaborate and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders, fostering a teamwork-oriented environment.
9. Proficiency in using sustainability management software and tools to track, analyze, and report on sustainability performance.
10. Knowledge of utility operations, including energy generation, distribution, and customer service, is preferred.
