Job Description: Utility Dispatcher
Position Overview:
The Utility Dispatcher plays a vital role in coordinating and dispatching utility operations to ensure the efficient and uninterrupted delivery of energy and utilities services. This position requires a high level of organization, excellent communication skills, and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. The Utility Dispatcher will work closely with various teams to monitor and respond to utility emergencies, troubleshoot issues, and maintain accurate records.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Monitor utility systems and promptly respond to emergencies, outages, and service disruptions to minimize downtime and ensure timely resolution.
2. Dispatch utility field personnel and equipment to designated locations based on service requests, emergencies, or maintenance requirements.
3. Communicate effectively with utility technicians, field personnel, and other relevant stakeholders to relay information, provide updates, and coordinate activities.
4. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of utility service requests, dispatch activities, and incident reports.
5. Collaborate with internal teams and external agencies to ensure compliance with safety regulations and protocols during emergency situations.
6. Utilize computer systems and specialized software to track and document utility dispatch activities, including work orders, service tickets, and resource allocation.
7. Monitor and analyze utility system data, performance indicators, and alarms to proactively identify potential issues and recommend appropriate actions.
8. Assist in developing and implementing standard operating procedures (SOPs) for utility dispatch operations to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
9. Provide support in scheduling routine maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs to ensure optimal utilization of resources.
10. Stay updated on industry trends, technologies, and best practices related to utility dispatching and incorporate them into daily operations as appropriate.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. High school diploma or equivalent; additional certification or training in utility management or a related field is preferred.
2. Proven experience as a Utility Dispatcher or in a similar role, preferably in the energy and utilities sector.
3. Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
4. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to convey information clearly and concisely.
5. Proficiency in using computer systems, including dispatch software, databases, and Microsoft Office Suite.
6. Ability to handle high-pressure situations and make quick decisions while maintaining composure.
7. Solid problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities to troubleshoot issues and propose effective solutions.
8. Familiarity with utility systems, terminology, and emergency response procedures.
9. Detail-oriented mindset with a focus on accuracy and data integrity.
10. Flexibility to work in shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on operational requirements.
