Job Description: Utility Compliance Officer
Position Overview:
The Utility Compliance Officer is responsible for ensuring that the energy and utility company's operations meet all applicable regulatory requirements, industry standards, and internal policies related to safety, environmental compliance, and quality assurance. This role requires meticulous attention to detail and a strong understanding of regulatory frameworks in the energy and utilities sector.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop and implement compliance programs and policies to ensure adherence to local, regional, and national regulations governing the energy and utilities industry.
2. Monitor and assess regulatory changes and updates to ensure the company's compliance with all relevant laws, codes, and standards.
3. Conduct regular audits and inspections of utility facilities, equipment, and operations to identify and address any compliance issues or deviations.
4. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and maintain effective compliance processes, procedures, and documentation.
5. Provide guidance and support to operational teams to ensure compliance expectations are understood and followed.
6. Investigate and respond to compliance-related incidents, complaints, and inquiries, ensuring appropriate actions are taken to mitigate risks and maintain compliance.
7. Manage and maintain accurate records of compliance activities, documentation, and reports.
8. Stay up-to-date with industry best practices, trends, and emerging regulations related to utility compliance.
9. Develop and deliver compliance training programs to enhance employee awareness and understanding of compliance requirements.
10. Build and maintain positive relationships with regulatory agencies, industry associations, and other stakeholders to ensure a proactive approach to compliance.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Engineering, Environmental Science, or Business Administration.
2. Minimum of 5 years of experience in utility compliance, regulatory affairs, or a similar role within the energy and utilities industry.
3. In-depth knowledge of energy and utility regulations, codes, standards, and best practices.
4. Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex regulatory requirements and apply them to practical operations.
5. Excellent attention to detail, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
6. Proven ability to conduct compliance audits, inspections, and investigations.
7. Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely.
8. Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and build positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
9. Proficient in using computer software and applications necessary for compliance management.
10. Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
