Job Summary:
The Renewable Energy Legal Counsel will provide expert legal advice and support to the organization's renewable energy initiatives. This role involves reviewing, drafting, and negotiating complex legal agreements, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations, and managing legal risks associated with renewable energy projects. The Renewable Energy Legal Counsel will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to drive legal strategies and ensure the successful implementation of renewable energy projects.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Review and negotiate complex legal agreements, including power purchase agreements (PPAs), project development agreements, joint venture agreements, and other related contracts, to protect the organization's interests and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
2. Provide legal guidance and support on various aspects of renewable energy projects, including financing, project development, permitting, regulatory matters, and environmental compliance.
3. Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including project managers, engineers, and finance teams, to identify legal risks and develop strategies to mitigate them effectively.
4. Stay updated on evolving laws, regulations, and industry standards related to renewable energy, and provide recommendations to ensure compliance and maintain a competitive edge.
5. Conduct legal research and analysis to support decision-making processes and provide accurate and timely legal advice to internal teams.
6. Participate in contract negotiations and dispute resolution processes, working closely with external legal counsel, when necessary.
7. Support the development and implementation of legal policies and procedures related to renewable energy projects.
8. Assist in the management and protection of intellectual property rights associated with renewable energy initiatives.
9. Collaborate with regulatory bodies, industry associations, and other external stakeholders to monitor and influence legislation and regulations that impact renewable energy projects.
10. Provide training and guidance to internal teams on legal matters related to renewable energy initiatives.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
2. Admission to the Bar in the relevant jurisdiction.
3. Minimum of 5 years of experience practicing law, with a focus on renewable energy or related fields.
4. Strong knowledge of renewable energy industry regulations, policies, and practices.
5. Proven experience in reviewing, drafting, and negotiating complex legal agreements, such as PPAs, project development agreements, and joint venture agreements.
6. Sound understanding of financing structures and mechanisms commonly used in the renewable energy sector.
7. Excellent research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
8. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex legal concepts effectively.
9. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
10. Detail-oriented with exceptional organizational and time management skills.
11. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
12. Strong business acumen and ability to balance legal risks with commercial objectives.
13. Experience in managing external legal counsel and other stakeholders.
14. Proficiency in using legal research tools and software.
