Job Description: Actuarial Test Developer
Position Overview:
The Actuarial Test Developer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining actuarial examinations and assessments. This role requires a strong background in mathematics, statistics, and actuarial science. The Actuarial Test Developer collaborates with subject matter experts (SMEs) to ensure that examinations accurately assess the knowledge and skills required for actuarial professionals.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop and Design Actuarial Examinations:
- Create and design test items, questions, and scenarios for actuarial examinations, ensuring they align with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Utilize sound psychometric principles to develop reliable and valid examination content.
- Collaborate with SMEs to identify and assess the relevant knowledge, skills, and competencies required for successful actuarial practice.
2. Conduct Item Analysis and Statistical Evaluation:
- Analyze test results and perform statistical evaluations to determine the effectiveness, difficulty, and quality of examination items.
- Ensure test items are unbiased, fair, and free from any form of discrimination.
- Maintain detailed records of item analysis and statistical evaluations to support continuous improvement of the examination process.
3. Review and Update Examination Content:
- Regularly review and update examination content to keep it current and reflective of industry trends, practices, and regulations.
- Collaborate with SMEs to incorporate new developments and emerging topics into the examination content.
- Ensure examination content is accurate, comprehensive, and aligned with the latest actuarial principles and methodologies.
4. Collaborate with SMEs and Stakeholders:
- Collaborate with SMEs to gather feedback, identify areas for improvement, and incorporate suggestions into the examination development process.
- Liaise with internal stakeholders, including subject matter experts, exam administrators, and regulatory bodies, to ensure examinations meet their requirements.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Education:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, or a related field.
2. Actuarial Knowledge:
- In-depth understanding of actuarial science principles, theories, and methodologies.
- Strong knowledge of actuarial exams and professional designations, such as the Society of Actuaries (SOA) or Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS).
3. Statistical Analysis:
- Proficiency in statistical analysis techniques and tools, including item response theory (IRT) and classical test theory (CTT).
- Experience conducting item analysis and evaluating examination results.
4. Test Development:
- Proven experience in designing and developing assessments, examinations, or standardized tests.
- Familiarity with test development best practices, including item writing guidelines and blueprint creation.
5. Collaboration and Communication:
- Excellent collaboration skills to work effectively with subject matter experts and stakeholders.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to clearly articulate complex concepts and instructions.
6. Attention to Detail:
- Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy and quality in examination content development.
- Ability to review and edit examination items for clarity, consistency, and adherence to guidelines.

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and address issues related to examination content and development.
