Job Summary:
The Medical Librarian is responsible for managing and maintaining the library's collection of medical literature and resources, ensuring efficient access and delivery of information to healthcare professionals, researchers, and students. The role involves providing specialized research assistance, organizing educational programs, and promoting the effective use of library resources and services within the medical community. The Medical Librarian also collaborates with other departments to support evidence-based practice and contribute to the overall mission of the library.
Responsibilities:
1. Develop and maintain a comprehensive collection of medical literature, including books, journals, databases, and electronic resources.
2. Provide expert research assistance and reference services to healthcare professionals, researchers, and students, ensuring timely and accurate information retrieval.
3. Assist users in navigating and utilizing electronic resources, databases, and other library technologies effectively.
4. Collaborate with faculty and staff to integrate library resources into medical education and research activities.
5. Plan and conduct educational programs, workshops, and training sessions for library users on information literacy, database searching, and research methods.
6. Promote the use of evidence-based practice by assisting in the identification, evaluation, and synthesis of medical literature and research.
7. Stay updated with trends and advancements in medical librarianship, information science, and health sciences resources.
8. Assist in the development and implementation of library policies, procedures, and strategic initiatives.
9. Collaborate with other librarians and library staff to ensure seamless access to information resources and services.
10. Participate in collection development activities by evaluating and selecting relevant medical materials based on user needs and resource availability.
11. Contribute to the creation and maintenance of research guides, tutorials, and online resources to support user information needs.
12. Conduct regular assessments and gather user feedback to improve library services and resources.
Skills and Qualifications:
1. Master's degree in Library and Information Science or a related field.
2. Strong knowledge of medical literature, information resources, and research methodologies.
3. Familiarity with medical databases, electronic resources, and library technologies.
4. Proficiency in using library management systems and other relevant software.
5. Excellent research and analytical skills with the ability to gather, evaluate, and synthesize information efficiently.
6. Strong interpersonal and communication skills to provide effective reference services and interact with diverse library users.
7. Ability to organize and deliver educational programs and training sessions.
8. Knowledge of evidence-based practice and the ability to support research activities within the medical field.
9. Familiarity with copyright laws, intellectual property rights, and ethical considerations in medical librarianship.
10. Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
11. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in information retrieval and organization.
12. Ability to adapt to changing technologies and evolving user needs.
