Position: Cataloging Librarian

Job Summary:
The Cataloging Librarian is responsible for efficiently organizing, maintaining, and improving the library's cataloging system. This role requires a strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and deep knowledge of library cataloging standards and practices. The Cataloging Librarian will collaborate with other library staff members to enhance access to library materials and ensure accurate and consistent cataloging data.
Responsibilities:
- Perform original and complex copy cataloging of a wide range of library materials, including books, periodicals, multimedia, and electronic resources, adhering to established cataloging standards such as RDA, MARC21, AACR2, and Library of Congress classification.
- Create and maintain bibliographic records and authority files, ensuring accurate and consistent metadata for library materials.
- Evaluate, analyze, and resolve cataloging issues, including resolving conflicts in bibliographic records and authority files.
- Collaborate with library staff to develop and implement cataloging policies and procedures.
- Stay updated with emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in library cataloging and metadata management.
- Provide guidance and training to library staff on cataloging standards, procedures, and practices.
- Collaborate with other librarians to improve search and discovery services, including implementing metadata enhancements and optimizing user interfaces.
- Participate in collection development activities by recommending materials for acquisition and identifying gaps in the library's collection.
- Assist patrons with catalog searches, resource recommendations, and other library-related inquiries.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of the library's digital repository and other digital initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution.
- Strong knowledge of library cataloging standards, including RDA, MARC21, AACR2, and Library of Congress classification.
- Familiarity with emerging trends and best practices in library cataloging and metadata management.
- Proficiency in using cataloging tools and software, such as OCLC Connexion, integrated library systems (ILS), and library discovery platforms.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate and resolve complex cataloging issues.
- Attention to detail, with the ability to ensure accuracy and consistency in cataloging data.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
