Position Summary:
The Library Technician is responsible for providing support services in a library setting, assisting with the organization and management of library resources, and ensuring efficient operations. This position requires excellent attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively within a team. The Library Technician will work closely with library staff and patrons to provide exceptional customer service and facilitate access to information resources.
Responsibilities:
1. Assist in the acquisition, cataloging, and processing of library materials, including books, periodicals, multimedia resources, and digital content.
2. Maintain accurate records of library materials, ensuring proper labeling, shelving, and inventory management.
3. Assist with the circulation of library materials, including checking items in and out, issuing library cards, and resolving patron inquiries.
4. Provide reference and research assistance to library patrons, helping them locate and access relevant resources both physically and digitally.
5. Collaborate with library staff to develop and implement library programs, workshops, and events to engage and educate patrons.
6. Assist with the development and maintenance of the library's online presence, including the library website, online catalog, and digital repositories.
7. Contribute to the development and implementation of library policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with industry standards and best practices.
8. Troubleshoot and maintain library equipment, including computers, printers, scanners, and audiovisual devices.
9. Assist in the training and supervision of library volunteers and student workers.
10. Stay abreast of emerging library technologies, trends, and best practices to enhance library services and operations.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Library and Information Science or a related field.
2. Proven experience working in a library or information center environment.
3. Strong knowledge of library systems, cataloging principles, and metadata standards.
4. Proficient in using library management software and online databases.
5. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
6. Demonstrated ability to provide exceptional customer service and work effectively with diverse populations.
7. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in performing tasks.
8. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
9. Proficient in using technology and digital tools for library operations.
10. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
