Job Description: Digital Archivist

Position: Digital Archivist

Department: Library and Information Science

Reports to: Head Librarian

Job Summary:
The Digital Archivist is responsible for the management, preservation, and accessibility of the library's digital collections. This role requires expertise in library and information science, with a focus on librarianship and digital archiving. The Digital Archivist plays a crucial role in ensuring the long-term preservation and organization of digital assets, as well as facilitating user access to these resources.

Responsibilities:
1. Develop and implement strategies for the acquisition, arrangement, description, preservation, and access of digital collections.
2. Collaborate with librarians, researchers, and other stakeholders to identify potential digital materials suitable for archiving.
3. Perform regular assessments of the library's digital collection to ensure compliance with preservation standards and best practices.

5. Utilize appropriate storage systems and technologies to preserve digital assets, ensuring their integrity and authenticity.
6. Develop and enforce policies and procedures related to digital preservation, including file formats, naming conventions, and backup strategies.
7. Stay up-to-date with emerging trends and technologies related to digital preservation and recommend improvements to existing systems and processes.
8. Collaborate with IT staff to ensure the security and integrity of digital collections, including disaster recovery plans.

Qualifications:

Education:
- Master's degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) or equivalent from an accredited institution.

Experience:
- Minimum of two years of professional experience in digital archiving or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience in managing digital collections and applying digital preservation best practices.

Skills and Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of library and information science principles, practices, and standards.
- In-depth knowledge of digital preservation principles and methodologies.
- Proficiency in utilizing digital library management systems and software.
- Familiarity with metadata standards and controlled vocabularies.
- Experience with digital imaging and digitization processes.
