Job Summary:
The Research Librarian is responsible for providing high-quality research support and information services to meet the evolving needs of patrons in the Library and Information Science field. This role requires a proactive and customer-focused approach to assist users in accessing and utilizing a wide range of resources effectively. The Research Librarian will collaborate with faculty, students, and staff to deliver comprehensive research assistance and contribute to the development of library collections.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide expert research assistance and reference services to library patrons, including students, faculty, and staff, both in-person and virtually.
2. Conduct thorough literature reviews and research analyses, utilizing appropriate databases, catalogs, and electronic resources to identify relevant materials.
3. Guide patrons in the effective use of library resources, including databases, digital collections, and other research tools.
4. Collaborate with faculty and researchers to support their information needs, providing specialized assistance in locating and evaluating scholarly resources.
5. Develop and deliver instructional sessions, workshops, and presentations on research methodologies, information literacy, and library resources.
6. Participate in collection development activities, including evaluating and selecting materials, in collaboration with subject librarians and department heads.
7. Stay abreast of emerging trends and best practices in library and information science, and apply this knowledge to enhance library services and resources.
8. Assist in managing and maintaining the library's electronic resources, ensuring seamless access and troubleshooting technical issues when necessary.
9. Support interlibrary loan services by facilitating resource sharing and borrowing materials from other institutions.
10. Maintain accurate records of research inquiries, resource usage, and user feedback to inform decision-making and improve services.
Qualifications and Skills:
1. Master's degree in Library and Information Science or a related field.
2. Proven experience in providing research assistance and reference services in an academic or research library setting.
3. Strong knowledge of library resources, databases, and search strategies across various disciplines.
4. Proficiency in utilizing information technology tools and library management systems for research and resource access.
5. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively explain complex information and instructions.
6. Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
7. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
8. Commitment to providing exceptional customer service and a passion for serving diverse user groups.
9. Familiarity with emerging technologies and their applications in library and information science.
10. Knowledge of copyright and intellectual property issues related to library services.
