Summary:
The Theater Dance Captain is a vital role within our theater arts department, responsible for ensuring the quality and consistency of dance performances in our theatrical productions. They will collaborate closely with the Director of Choreography, assisting in the coordination and training of dancers, maintaining dance routines, and providing guidance to the ensemble cast members. The Dance Captain must possess exceptional leadership and communication skills, as well as a strong background in dance performance.
Responsibilities:
1. Assist the Director of Choreography in organizing and leading dance rehearsals, ensuring adherence to the artistic vision and choreography of the production.
2. Help maintain the artistic integrity of the dance routines, ensuring consistency and precision in performances.
3. Provide guidance and support to ensemble cast members, assisting them in mastering dance routines and maintaining consistent execution throughout the production.
4. Step into the role of dance understudy if required, ensuring a seamless transition in the event of cast absences or emergencies.
5. Collaborate with the Director of Choreography and production team to develop and implement effective dance training programs for the cast members.
6. Continuously monitor and evaluate the performance of dancers, providing constructive feedback and coaching to enhance their skills and abilities.
7. Assist in ensuring the safety of performers during dance sequences, identifying and addressing potential risks or hazards.
8. Serve as a liaison between the dancers, cast members, and the production team, fostering effective communication and collaboration.
9. Maintain accurate records of dance routines, documenting any changes or modifications made throughout the production.
10. Stay updated with industry trends and techniques, continuously enhancing personal dance skills and knowledge.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Theater Arts, Dance, or related field is preferred.
2. Proven experience as a professional dancer in theatrical productions, with a strong background in various dance styles.
3. Demonstrated leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a diverse group of dancers.
4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of effectively collaborating with performers, directors, and production staff.
5. In-depth knowledge of dance techniques, terminology, and choreography, with the ability to teach and guide others.
6. Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
7. Flexibility and adaptability to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required by production schedules.
8. Ability to maintain composure under pressure and handle any unexpected challenges or changes during rehearsals or performances.
9. Physical stamina and fitness, as the role may involve extensive physical activity and dancing.
10. A passion for the performing arts and a genuine enthusiasm for promoting excellence in dance performances.
