Job Summary:
The Theater Stagehand is responsible for assisting in the setup, operation, and maintenance of stage equipment and props for performances in a theater setting. This role requires a strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Assist in the setup and breakdown of stage equipment, props, and scenery for rehearsals, performances, and events.
2. Safely operate and handle various stage equipment, including lighting fixtures, sound systems, rigging systems, and special effects machinery.
3. Collaborate closely with the Stage Manager, Lighting Designer, Sound Engineer, and other production staff to ensure smooth and efficient performances.
4. Follow all safety protocols and procedures to ensure the well-being of performers, crew members, and audience members.
5. Perform routine maintenance and repairs on stage equipment, ensuring that it is in proper working condition at all times.
6. Maintain an organized inventory of props, costumes, and other stage-related materials, ensuring they are properly stored and easily accessible.
7. Assist in the coordination of scene changes, ensuring that sets and props are moved efficiently and discreetly during performances.
8. Provide assistance to performers during wardrobe changes, ensuring quick and seamless transitions.
9. Attend production meetings and rehearsals as required, actively participating in discussions and offering input when necessary.
10. Maintain a professional and collaborative attitude at all times, promoting a positive and respectful work environment.
Qualifications and Skills:
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Previous experience in a stagehand or theater production role is preferred.
3. Strong knowledge of stage equipment, including lighting, sound, rigging, and special effects.
4. Familiarity with theater terminology and practices.
5. Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment, while maintaining attention to detail and accuracy.
6. Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think quickly on your feet.
7. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with a diverse range of individuals.
8. Physical stamina and the ability to lift heavy objects, climb ladders, and perform manual labor as required.
9. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, as performances and events demand.
10. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to and from the theater.
