Job Summary:
The Theater Stage Manager is responsible for effectively managing all aspects of the production process, ensuring the smooth execution of performances and maintaining the overall integrity of the theatrical production. This role requires excellent organizational skills, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate with diverse teams.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Oversee all aspects of the production process, including rehearsals, technical rehearsals, performances, and strike.
2. Collaborate closely with the Production Manager, Director, and other key personnel to develop and execute the artistic vision of the production.
3. Create and maintain detailed production schedules, ensuring all deadlines are met in a timely manner.
4. Facilitate effective communication between all members of the production team, including actors, crew, designers, and directors.
5. Coordinate and manage the entire backstage area during performances, ensuring seamless execution of cues, set changes, and costume changes.
6. Maintain and update all necessary production documentation, including scripts, prompt books, and rehearsal notes.
7. Conduct thorough and efficient rehearsals, ensuring that all actors and crew members are prepared and aware of their responsibilities.
8. Manage and supervise the stage crew, ensuring that all technical aspects of the production are executed flawlessly.
9. Ensure the safety of all cast and crew members during rehearsals and performances, adhering to all health and safety regulations.
10. Collaborate with the Technical Director and other production staff to ensure the proper functioning and maintenance of all technical equipment.
11. Assist in the recruitment and hiring of production staff and crew members as required.
12. Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in theater technology, recommending improvements to enhance the production process.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Theater Arts or a related field is preferred.
2. Proven experience as a Stage Manager in a professional theater environment.
3. Strong knowledge of theatrical production processes, including stagecraft, lighting, sound, and set design.
4. Exceptional organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
5. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse teams.
6. Proficiency in using industry-standard stage management software and computer programs.
7. Ability to remain calm under pressure and make quick decisions in high-stress situations.
8. Strong leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and supervise a team.
9. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by the production schedule.
10. Knowledge of health and safety regulations in theater production.
11. A passion for the performing arts and a strong commitment to delivering high-quality productions.
