Job Summary:
The Adventure Education Instructor is responsible for planning, organizing, and delivering adventure-based physical education programs and activities. This role focuses on fostering physical fitness, teamwork, leadership, and personal development through challenging outdoor experiences. The instructor will work closely with students, providing guidance, instruction, and ensuring safety during adventure education sessions.
Responsibilities:
1. Develop and implement adventure education curriculum and lesson plans in alignment with the physical education program objectives.
2. Lead and supervise adventure education sessions, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for all participants.
3. Instruct students on various adventure activities, such as rock climbing, hiking, canoeing, orienteering, and team-building exercises.
4. Teach necessary skills and techniques required for each activity, including safety guidelines and proper equipment usage.
5. Assess individual student progress and provide constructive feedback to enhance their physical and personal development.
6. Collaborate with the Physical Education team to integrate adventure education into the overall curriculum.
7. Plan and organize field trips, outdoor excursions, and overnight camping trips to provide students with hands-on adventure experiences.
8. Maintain and manage adventure education equipment, ensuring its proper functioning and safety standards.
9. Administer first aid and emergency response procedures when necessary, prioritizing the well-being of students and staff.
10. Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues to address any concerns or provide updates on adventure education activities.
11. Stay updated with industry trends and best practices in adventure education to enhance program effectiveness.
Qualifications and Skills:
1. Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Adventure Education, Sports Science, or a related field.
2. Minimum of 2 years of experience as an Adventure Education Instructor, or similar role, preferably in an educational setting.
3. Proven expertise in leading adventure-based activities, including rock climbing, hiking, canoeing, and team-building exercises.
4. Demonstrated knowledge of safety protocols and risk management in adventure education.
5. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage and motivate students.
6. Excellent organizational and time management abilities to plan and coordinate adventure education sessions and trips.
7. Current certification in first aid and CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation).
8. Ability to adapt to various environments and work collaboratively with diverse groups of students and staff.
9. Passion for outdoor adventure and physical fitness, with a commitment to promoting personal growth and teamwork.
10. Familiarity with educational frameworks and standards related to physical education and adventure education.
