Job Summary:
The Adaptive Physical Activity Instructor is responsible for developing and implementing adaptive physical education programs to meet the needs of individuals with disabilities. This role focuses on developing exercise plans and activities to promote physical fitness, motor skills development, and overall well-being in a safe and inclusive environment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Design and implement adaptive physical education programs tailored to individuals with disabilities, considering their unique needs, abilities, and goals.
2. Plan and conduct engaging, age-appropriate physical activities and exercises that promote physical fitness, coordination, and motor skill development.
3. Assess participants' physical abilities and create personalized exercise plans to meet their specific needs and enhance overall physical fitness levels.
4. Provide individual and group instruction to participants, ensuring proper technique and safety measures are adhered to at all times.
5. Modify activities and exercises as necessary to accommodate varying levels of ability, ensuring a positive and inclusive experience for all participants.
6. Monitor and document participants' progress, evaluating their physical capabilities and adjusting exercise plans accordingly.
7. Collaborate with other instructors and healthcare professionals to develop and implement strategies to enhance participants' overall health and well-being.
8. Maintain a clean and safe exercise environment, ensuring all equipment is properly maintained and in good working condition.
9. Stay updated on the latest research, trends, and best practices in adaptive physical education, incorporating new techniques and methodologies into program development.
10. Communicate effectively with participants, their families, and other stakeholders, providing guidance, support, and regular progress updates as required.
Qualifications and Skills:
1. Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Adapted Physical Education, Kinesiology, or a related field.
2. Previous experience working with individuals with disabilities in a physical education or adaptive sports setting.
3. In-depth knowledge of adaptive physical education principles, practices, and techniques.
4. Strong understanding of various disabilities and the associated physical limitations and challenges.
5. Ability to develop and modify exercise plans based on individual needs and goals.
6. Proficient in conducting assessments and evaluating participants' physical capabilities.
7. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with participants, families, and healthcare professionals.
8. Ability to create a positive and inclusive environment that fosters growth, motivation, and self-confidence.
9. Strong organizational and time management skills to effectively plan and coordinate activities.
10. Current CPR and First Aid certifications (or willingness to obtain).
11. Physical fitness and stamina to actively participate in physical activities alongside participants.
