Position: Special Olympics Athletic Trainer

Summary:
The Special Olympics Athletic Trainer will be responsible for providing comprehensive and specialized athletic training services to athletes competing in Special Olympics events. The role primarily involves assessing and managing injuries, providing immediate care, and implementing preventive strategies to ensure the overall well-being and safety of the athletes. The Special Olympics Athletic Trainer will work closely with athletes, coaches, medical professionals, and other stakeholders to optimize performance and promote a positive sports environment.
Responsibilities:
1. Conduct thorough assessments and evaluations of athletes' conditions, including sport-related injuries, medical histories, and physical capabilities.
2. Develop individualized treatment plans based on assessment results and in line with best practices in athletic training.
3. Administer appropriate immediate care, including first aid, emergency medical attention, and injury stabilization, in accordance with established protocols.
4. Collaborate with coaches, medical professionals, and other relevant personnel to develop and implement injury prevention strategies and training programs.
5. Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records for all athletes, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with relevant privacy regulations.
6. Provide ongoing education and guidance to athletes, coaches, and support staff on injury prevention, sports nutrition, and safe training practices.
7. Coordinate and supervise the implementation of rehabilitation and return-to-play plans for injured athletes, in collaboration with medical professionals.
8. Assist in the selection, fitting, and maintenance of appropriate protective equipment and assistive devices for athletes.
9. Respond promptly and effectively to medical emergencies during training sessions, competitions, and other Special Olympics events.
10. Stay informed about current trends and advancements in athletic training and sports medicine, and incorporate relevant knowledge into practice.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Athletic Training, Sports Medicine, or a related field.
2. Current certification as an Athletic Trainer by the Board of Certification (BOC).
3. Valid state licensure (where applicable) as an Athletic Trainer.
4. Minimum of [X] years of experience as an Athletic Trainer, preferably in a sports or athletics setting.
5. In-depth knowledge of sports-related injuries, injury prevention, and rehabilitation techniques.
6. Strong understanding of the physical and psychological demands associated with intellectual disabilities and able to adapt training protocols accordingly.
7. Proficient in conducting thorough assessments and evaluations of athletes' conditions.
8. Proven ability to develop and implement individualized treatment and training plans.
9. Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with athletes, coaches, and medical professionals.
10. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
11. Exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
12. Current certification in First Aid, CPR, and AED (Automated External Defibrillator).
13. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required by Special Olympics events.
