Job Summary:
The Emergency Room Athletic Trainer is responsible for providing immediate medical care and assistance to athletes and sports participants who sustain injuries during athletic events or training sessions. This role primarily operates within the emergency room setting, ensuring prompt assessment, treatment, and referral of athletes requiring immediate medical attention. The Emergency Room Athletic Trainer works closely with medical professionals and the athletic training team to deliver high-quality care to injured athletes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide immediate medical care to athletes and sports participants who present with acute injuries in the emergency room.
- Perform initial assessments of injuries to determine the severity and develop appropriate treatment plans.
- Administer emergency medical interventions, such as wound care, splinting, and immobilization techniques, as required.
- Collaborate with medical professionals, including physicians and nurses, to ensure timely and accurate diagnoses and treatment plans.
- Communicate effectively with athletes, coaches, and other members of the athletic training team to provide updates on athletes' conditions and progress.
- Maintain accurate and detailed medical records of all assessments, treatments, and referrals for injured athletes.
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and professional standards related to athletic training and emergency medical care.
- Stay up-to-date with advancements in emergency medical procedures and techniques, attending relevant training and professional development opportunities as required.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of emergency action plans for athletic events and training sessions.
- Assist in the coordination of transportation for athletes requiring further medical evaluation or specialized care.
- Participate in the evaluation and selection of appropriate medical equipment and supplies for emergency room settings.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training or related field.
- Current certification as an Athletic Trainer by the Board of Certification (BOC).
- Valid state licensure or eligibility for licensure as an Athletic Trainer.
- Minimum of [X] years of experience as an Athletic Trainer, preferably with some experience in an emergency room or acute care setting.
- Strong knowledge of emergency medical procedures, including wound care, splinting, and immobilization techniques.
