Job Description: Athletic Scout
Position Overview:
The Athletic Scout is responsible for identifying, evaluating, and recruiting talented athletes for sports teams, colleges, universities, and professional organizations. This role involves assessing athletic abilities, character traits, and potential of individuals in various sports disciplines. The Athletic Scout plays a crucial role in building successful teams and ensuring the long-term success of athletic programs.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Identify and evaluate potential athletes through attending games, tournaments, and competitions.
2. Assess the skills, performance, and potential of athletes in various sports disciplines, such as basketball, football, soccer, track and field, etc.
3. Evaluate character traits, work ethic, discipline, and coachability of athletes.
4. Collaborate with coaches, team managers, and other sports personnel to identify specific talent needs.
5. Maintain a comprehensive database of potential athletes, including detailed records of evaluations, statistics, and performance metrics.
6. Conduct thorough research on athletes' academic eligibility, injury history, and personal background.
7. Attend meetings and conferences to stay updated with industry trends and new talent.
8. Establish and maintain relationships with high school coaches, club coaches, and sports organizations to gather information on potential athletes.
9. Organize and conduct tryouts, camps, and talent showcases to identify undiscovered talent.
10. Prepare detailed scouting reports and assessments for athletes, including strengths, weaknesses, and potential collegiate or professional opportunities.
11. Collaborate with academic advisors to ensure athletes meet eligibility requirements for scholarships and programs.
12. Provide recommendations and insights to coaches and team managers regarding athlete recruitment strategies.
13. Keep accurate records of travel, expenses, and scouting activities.
14. Stay informed about NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) regulations and guidelines related to recruiting and eligibility.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Sports Management, Physical Education, or a related field.
2. Proven experience as an Athletic Scout, Talent Scout, or similar role.
3. In-depth knowledge of various sports disciplines and their specific scouting requirements.
4. Strong analytical skills to assess athletes' performance and potential accurately.
5. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to build effective relationships with athletes, coaches, and sports personnel.
6. Excellent organizational and time management abilities to prioritize scouting activities and meet deadlines.
7. Proficiency in using scouting software, databases, and video analysis tools.
8. Ability to travel extensively and work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
9. Attention to detail to ensure accurate record-keeping and reporting.
10. Familiarity with NCAA regulations and guidelines regarding recruitment and eligibility.
11. Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
