Job Summary:
The Child Protective Services Worker is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of children at risk of abuse or neglect. Their primary role involves investigating allegations of child maltreatment, assessing family dynamics, and providing support and intervention services to promote child safety and family preservation. This position requires a compassionate and dedicated professional who can effectively collaborate with families, community partners, and other stakeholders to ensure the overall welfare of children.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of child safety and risk factors, utilizing standardized tools and methodologies.
- Investigate reports of child abuse or neglect, gather evidence, interview relevant parties, and document findings in accordance with applicable laws and protocols.
- Collaborate with law enforcement agencies, medical professionals, and other social service organizations to ensure a coordinated response in cases of suspected child maltreatment.
- Develop and implement safety plans, intervention strategies, and service plans for families involved in child protection cases.
- Provide crisis intervention, counseling, and support to children and families experiencing abuse or neglect, aiming to enhance family functioning and promote healthy relationships.
- Monitor and evaluate the progress of families through regular home visits, case conferences, and ongoing assessments.
- Prepare and present accurate and detailed reports, court documents, and recommendations to support legal proceedings related to child protection cases.
- Advocate for children's rights, ensuring their best interests are considered in all decision-making processes.
- Collaborate with community resources, including schools, healthcare providers, and therapeutic services, to facilitate access to appropriate support services for children and families.
- Stay informed about relevant legislation, policies, and best practices in the field of child welfare, and apply this knowledge to inform practice.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in social work, human services, psychology, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
- Valid licensure or certification in social work or a related discipline (if applicable).
- Demonstrated knowledge of child welfare laws, regulations, and child protection practices.
- Experience conducting investigations, assessments, and intervention services in child protection or related fields.
- Ability to manage a caseload, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines while maintaining attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and build rapport with diverse populations, including children, families, and community partners.
- Solid understanding of child development and family systems theory.
- Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities, with a solutions-oriented approach.
- Proficiency in using technology and computer software applications for documentation and record-keeping purposes.
- Ethical and professional conduct, with a commitment to maintaining confidentiality and respecting boundaries.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for conducting home visits and attending meetings.
- Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
