Job Summary:
The Family Counselor plays a crucial role in providing comprehensive counseling and support services to individuals, couples, and families seeking assistance with various emotional and behavioral issues. The primary focus of this position is to promote healthy family functioning, enhance communication and problem-solving skills, and address issues impacting family dynamics. The Family Counselor will work collaboratively with clients to identify underlying concerns and develop effective strategies to improve overall family well-being.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct individual, couple, and family counseling sessions to address a wide range of emotional, behavioral, and relationship issues.
2. Assess client needs and develop personalized treatment plans based on their specific circumstances and goals.
3. Utilize evidence-based counseling techniques and interventions to facilitate positive change and promote healthy coping mechanisms.
4. Assist clients in developing effective communication skills, conflict resolution strategies, and parenting techniques.
5. Provide crisis intervention and support to clients facing immediate emotional or safety concerns.
6. Collaborate with other professionals, such as mental health specialists and social workers, to ensure a holistic approach to client care.
7. Maintain accurate and up-to-date client records, including progress notes, treatment plans, and evaluations, while adhering to confidentiality guidelines.
8. Advocate for clients and connect them with appropriate community resources and support services, as needed.
9. Stay informed about current research, best practices, and trends in family counseling to enhance professional knowledge and skills.
10. Participate in regular supervision, team meetings, and professional development activities to ensure high-quality service delivery.
Qualifications and Skills:
1. Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related field.
2. Current licensure or eligibility for licensure as a professional counselor or clinical social worker.
3. Minimum of 2 years of experience in family counseling or related field.
4. Sound knowledge of theories, techniques, and best practices in family counseling.
5. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish rapport and build therapeutic relationships with diverse populations.
6. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively convey complex concepts and information.
7. Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical guidelines.
8. Proficient in using electronic health record systems and other relevant software applications.
9. Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
10. Strong organizational and time management skills to effectively prioritize workload and meet deadlines.
