Job Summary:
The Heavy Equipment Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting heavy machinery, vehicles, and equipment used in construction, mining, forestry, agriculture, and related industries. Key Responsibilities:
1. Perform regular maintenance, inspections, and repairs on heavy machinery and equipment, including bulldozers, excavators, loaders, graders, trucks, and other specialized vehicles.
2. Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic system issues, and utilize appropriate tools and diagnostic equipment to identify and resolve problems efficiently.
3. Conduct routine service and preventive maintenance tasks, including fluid changes, filter replacements, lubrication, and component adjustments.
4. Repair or replace damaged or worn parts, components, and systems, ensuring compliance with manufacturer specifications and safety standards.
5. Test heavy equipment to verify proper functionality after repairs or maintenance tasks, and make necessary adjustments for optimal performance.
6. Maintain accurate maintenance records, including service logs, parts usage, and equipment history.
7. Adhere to safety procedures and regulations at all times, ensuring a safe working environment for oneself and others.
8. Collaborate with the maintenance team, supervisors, and operators to ensure timely equipment repairs and minimize downtime.
9. Stay updated with industry advancements, new technologies, and equipment specifications, and recommend improvements or modifications to enhance efficiency and reliability.
10. Follow company policies and guidelines regarding work ethics, attendance, and professional conduct.
Skills and Qualifications:
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Proven experience as a heavy equipment mechanic or in a similar role.
3. In-depth knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems in heavy machinery.
4. Proficiency in diagnosing and troubleshooting complex mechanical and technical issues.
5. Strong understanding of equipment maintenance practices, including preventive maintenance and repairs.
6. Ability to interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints effectively.
7. Proficient in using diagnostic tools, equipment, and software to identify and resolve equipment malfunctions.
8. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
9. Attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
10. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with team members and operators.
11. Physical stamina and ability to work in various weather conditions and tight spaces.
