Job Summary:
The Rough Carpenter is responsible for performing a variety of skilled carpentry tasks in the construction, alteration, repair, and maintenance of structures and wooden fixtures. This position requires extensive experience in rough carpentry techniques and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Measure, cut, shape, assemble, and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, and other materials, using hand tools, power tools, and carpentry machinery.
2. Install structures such as rough frames, partitions, floors, roofs, and stairways, ensuring they are plumb, level, and square.
3. Construct and install wooden fixtures, including doors, windows, cabinets, shelves, and furniture.
4. Prepare and interpret blueprints, sketches, and drawings to determine specifications and materials required.
5. Inspect and repair damaged frameworks or structures, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
6. Install and repair wooden and metal studs, joists, and trusses.
7. Assist in estimating materials and labor costs for carpentry projects.
8. Collaborate with other tradespeople, such as electricians and plumbers, to ensure efficient completion of projects.
9. Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring tools and materials are properly stored.
10. Follow established safety protocols and adhere to all relevant building codes and regulations.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Minimum of 5 years of experience as a rough carpenter in the construction industry.
3. Extensive knowledge of rough carpentry techniques and practices.
4. Proficiency in using a wide range of hand tools, power tools, and carpentry machinery.
5. Ability to accurately interpret blueprints, sketches, and drawings.
6. Strong mathematical skills for measuring and calculating materials.
7. Excellent understanding of safety procedures and practices.
8. Physical stamina and the ability to perform manual labor for extended periods.
9. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
10. Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
