Summary:
The Seed Analyst plays a crucial role in ensuring the quality and integrity of seed products within our agricultural organization. This role involves conducting detailed analysis and testing of seed samples to determine their quality, viability, and compliance with industry standards and regulations. The Seed Analyst collaborates closely with the Agriculture team to support seed selection, breeding programs, and the development of new and improved seed varieties.
Responsibilities:
- Perform accurate and detailed analysis of seed samples, including purity, germination, moisture content, and other relevant characteristics, using specialized laboratory equipment and techniques
- Conduct seed viability tests to assess seed quality and potential growth
- Record and maintain accurate data and results of seed analysis in designated databases and systems
- Assist in seed processing activities, including seed cleaning, grading, and packaging, as required
- Collaborate with the Agriculture team to develop and implement seed selection strategies and breeding programs
- Contribute to the development and improvement of seed testing methodologies and procedures
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards related to seed quality and traceability
- Maintain a clean and organized laboratory environment, including regular calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment
- Provide technical support and advice to internal stakeholders, including farmers, breeders, and researchers, regarding seed quality, testing procedures, and related matters
- Stay updated with industry trends, advancements, and regulatory changes related to seed testing and analysis
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Environmental Science, or a related field
- Proven experience as a Seed Analyst or in a similar role
- In-depth knowledge of seed analysis techniques, seed physiology, and quality standards
- Proficient in conducting seed viability tests, including germination and purity tests
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and analyze complex data accurately
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to maintain precise records
- Familiarity with laboratory equipment and techniques used in seed analysis
- Understanding of seed breeding and selection processes
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Proficient in using computer software and databases for data entry and analysis
