Job Description: Network VoIP Administrator
Position Overview:
The Network VoIP Administrator is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation, administration, and maintenance of the organization's Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) network infrastructure. This role requires a deep understanding of networking principles, VoIP protocols, and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex network-related issues. The Network VoIP Administrator will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure optimal voice communication across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Administer and maintain the organization's VoIP network infrastructure, ensuring its availability, reliability, and performance.
2. Configure, monitor, and maintain VoIP equipment, including IP-PBX, gateways, routers, switches, and related hardware.
3. Perform network assessments and capacity planning to identify potential bottlenecks and ensure network scalability.
4. Collaborate with network engineers and other IT teams to optimize voice traffic and ensure effective integration with the overall network infrastructure.
5. Troubleshoot and resolve complex network-related issues, including call quality, call routing, and connectivity problems.
6. Monitor network performance and utilization, proactively identifying and rectifying network-related performance degradation or security vulnerabilities.
7. Develop and maintain network documentation, including network diagrams, configuration details, and standard operating procedures.
8. Stay updated with industry best practices, emerging technologies, and trends related to VoIP and networking.
9. Participate in the evaluation, selection, and implementation of new network equipment and technologies.
10. Collaborate with vendors and service providers to address issues, coordinate maintenance, and ensure compliance with service-level agreements (SLAs).
11. Provide technical assistance and support to end-users, troubleshooting and resolving voice-related issues in a timely manner.
12. Ensure compliance with security policies, industry regulations, and best practices in all aspects of network administration.
13. Assist in disaster recovery planning and participate in periodic testing of the VoIP network infrastructure.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
2. Minimum of X years of experience in network administration, with a specific focus on VoIP network infrastructure.
3. In-depth knowledge of VoIP protocols and technologies, such as SIP, RTP, SRTP, and codecs (G.711, G.729, etc.).
4. Strong understanding of network protocols and technologies, including TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, VLANs, QoS, and routing protocols (BGP, OSPF).
5. Extensive experience with network hardware, including IP-PBX, gateways, routers, switches, and related equipment.
6. Proficient in configuring and troubleshooting VoIP devices and software, such as Asterisk, Cisco Call Manager, or similar platforms.
7. Solid knowledge of network security principles and best practices, including firewall configurations and VoIP-specific security measures.
8. Ability to analyze network traffic using packet capture tools (Wireshark, tcpdump) and interpret SIP messages.
9. Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex network-related issues.
10. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and end-users.
11. Proven ability to document network configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
12. Relevant certifications, such as Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) Collaboration or equivalent, are preferred.
