Job Description: Network Routing and Switching Engineer
Position Overview:
The Network Routing and Switching Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining network infrastructure components related to routing and switching. This role involves planning, configuring, and troubleshooting network devices to ensure optimal performance, security, and reliability. The Network Routing and Switching Engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to support network infrastructure projects and ensure seamless connectivity across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Designing, configuring, and implementing network routing and switching solutions to meet business requirements.
2. Collaborating with network architects to develop network designs and strategies based on industry best practices.
3. Managing and maintaining network devices, including routers, switches, and gateways.
4. Implementing and maintaining network protocols, including BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, and MPLS.
5. Configuring and managing VLANs, VRFs, and other network segmentation techniques.
6. Troubleshooting network issues and providing timely resolution to minimize downtime.
7. Monitoring network performance and implementing necessary enhancements to optimize efficiency.
8. Collaborating with security teams to ensure network infrastructure aligns with security policies and standards.
9. Conducting network performance analysis and capacity planning activities.
10. Documenting network configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps accurately.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
2. Proven experience as a Network Routing and Switching Engineer or similar role.
3. Strong understanding of network routing and switching protocols and concepts.
4. In-depth knowledge of network security principles and best practices.
5. Proficiency in configuring and managing network devices, including routers, switches, and firewalls.
6. Experience with network monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
7. Familiarity with network segmentation techniques, such as VLANs and VRFs.
8. Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze and resolve complex network issues.
9. Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
10. Detail-oriented with the ability to document network configurations accurately.
11. Industry certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, or JNCIA are highly desirable.
