Job Description: LAN (Local Area Network) Engineer
Position Overview:
The LAN Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining Local Area Networks (LAN) within the organization. This role requires a thorough understanding of network infrastructure, network protocols, and network security. The LAN Engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure efficient and uninterrupted network performance, as well as troubleshoot and resolve any network-related issues.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Design and implement LAN infrastructure, including switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless networks.
2. Monitor and maintain LAN performance, ensuring high availability and optimal network performance.
3. Troubleshoot and resolve network-related issues, including network connectivity, configuration, and performance problems.
4. Collaborate with other IT teams to identify and implement network security measures, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and network access controls.
5. Conduct regular network performance testing and capacity planning to anticipate future network needs.
6. Document network infrastructure, configurations, and procedures to ensure accurate and up-to-date information.
7. Stay updated with industry trends and best practices to enhance network performance and security.
8. Provide technical guidance and support to end-users regarding network connectivity and related issues.
9. Collaborate with vendors and service providers to ensure smooth operation of network-related services.
10. Participate in network-related projects, including network upgrades, migrations, and expansions.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
2. Proven experience as a LAN Engineer or in a similar network engineering role.
3. In-depth knowledge of LAN infrastructure components, including switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless access points.
4. Strong understanding of network protocols and technologies, such as TCP/IP, VLANs, VPNs, and DNS.
5. Proficient in network troubleshooting and analysis tools for monitoring and diagnosing network performance issues.
6. Familiarity with network security principles and best practices, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and access controls.
7. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills to identify and resolve network-related issues.
8. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and end-users.
9. Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
10. Relevant certifications, such as CCNA or CCNP, are highly desirable.
